This Hondata KPro for the 2001-2005 Honda Civic Non-Si requires you to send in your own ECU core and comes with the KPro converted ECU and a new D17 Cam Gear.

What is the K-Pro ECU?
The K-Pro ECU is a specially modified 2002 to 2004 Honda ECU with a USB interface to a notebook PC running Windows. It is currently available for the standard shift Acura RSX base model and Type-S, the US Civic Si and the Euro Civic Type R, and the CR-V. K-Pro ECU Manager software allows the setting of cam angle, ignition advance, fuel, and a variety of other aspects. The purpose of the K-Pro ECU is to fine-tune the Honda ECU for the best possible engine performance under various operating conditions and with various engine configurations. It also allows you to disable the immobilizer which is particularly important to those people performing engine swaps.

What ECU do I need to send in? Can Hybrid Racing provide me with an ECU?
Hybrid Racing or the customer can send in a manual 2002-2004 Acura RSX Base or Type S, 2002-2005 Honda Civic Si, or 2002-2004 Honda CR-V ECU to be used for the D17 KPro. If you select that Hybrid Racing will supply an ECU, then one of these three types of ECU will be selected on your behalf.

The stock D17 ECU cannot be converted to a programmable ECU. A new RSX-S ECU or donor ECU must be used. The Hondata adjustable cam pulley has specially modified timing teeth. The stock timing wheel will not work. The Civic HX and all 2004-2005 Civics use a wideband 02 sensor compatible with the K-Pro. Base maps are included for a stock D17 non-VTEC Civic and a D17 non-VTEC turbo. The K-Pro ECU will not work on automatic D17 Civics. Any K-Pro used on a 2002-2004 RSX-S will work provided the Hondata cam gear is used.

Fitment:

2001-2005 Honda Civic (Non-Si)

Detailed Fitment:

  • Civic 2001-2005

Technical details:

The FlashPro uses software called KManager for tuning & data logging can be found here: KManager Software

Application Notes
  • All 2004-2005 Civics and the 2001-2003 Civic HX use a compatible wideband 02 sensor. Two wires need to be moved for the rear O2 operation.
  • The 2001-2003 Civic DX, LX & EX Civics use a narrowband 02 sensor. Two wires need to be moved for closed-loop operation.
  • If you plan a K engine swap, install the appropriate engine harness and switch on VTC in the KManager software.
  • Tables may be map-traced in real-time.
  • The K-Pro ECU is not real-time updateable, however most changes to tables and settings can be uploaded in 1-2 seconds via USB.
  • Most OBDII features may be disabled for race vehicles.
  • The D17 knock sensor is incompatible with the K-Pro and must be disabled in the KManager software.
  • Error codes and the OBDII readiness status may be data logged.
  • The K-Pro ECU can be matched to the Civic immobilizer system.

Included:

The modified ECU with a big Hondata sticker on it K-Pro Manager software and USB drivers on a CD Installation instructions A six-foot USB cable 2 silver Hondata stickers The modifications included the installation of a 1.75 x 4.5-inch Hondata-branded daughterboard. This required soldering a couple of connectors onto the motherboard. I analyzed the daughter board because I was curious as to what it does. The two main chips on it are: In addition, Hondata made a small cutout in the rear wall of the ECU housing to accommodate a standard USB connector.

As is usually the case with USB peripherals, the USB driver must be installed before the ECU is plugged in for the first time. After that, the ECU can be connected to the computer even if it is not in the car. The PC will then recognize it and install the proper driver. When it first came back, I simply connected the K-Pro ECU to my notebook and installed the USB driver. Then I put it back into its mounting bracket in the passenger footwell of the car and reconnected the various cables.

The D17 specific KPro will also come with a modified cam gear. This cam gear must be used when installing KPro on a D17 chassis.
